This Saturday, February 9 at 11 am the Knoxville chapter of UCW-CWA will be meeting at our office, located at 1124 N. Broadway. Lunch will be served. We will be voting on some important by law changes. Below is the letter that was mailed out two weeks ago that details the changes. Dear UCW-CWA member:
This letter is sent to announce upcoming membership meetings of the Knoxville and Chattanooga chapters of UCW-CWA. At these meetings we will be voting on important changes to our union’s bylaws. The texts of the proposed changes are included below.
The Knoxville Chapter will meet Saturday, February 9, 2008 from 11am – 1pm at our offices in the UNITE Building (1124 N. Broadway), lunch provided.
The Chattanooga Chapter will meet Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 12 noon in Brock Hall room 303.
Please Note: There will be a discussion of a new minimum dues rate for people who join UCW-CWA after MARCH 1 2008. NO CURRENT MEMBER will have their dues raised. Current members may voluntarily raise their dues to the new rate if they would like. In addition to the bylaws changes each meeting will have a provisional vote on what the dues rate for new members would be. Article XVI. Local Delegates to the CWA Convention and Other Meetings
Current Section of the Bylaws:
Local delegates and alternate delegates to a CWA Convention or Sectoral or District meeting shall be elected by the membership voting by secret ballot conducted not less than thirty (30) days in advance of the Convention or meeting. In the event the union elects more than one (1) delegate to the CWA Convention, the union shall determine the convention votes assigned to each delegate in accordance with Article VIII of the CWA Constitution.

A call for delegate nominations will be issued to the membership no less than fifteen (15) days prior to the Executive Board’s vote. In the event the Board elects more than one (1) delegate, the Board shall determine the convention votes assigned to each delegate in accordance with Article VIII of the CWA Constitution.
Article XIV. DUES AND GOOD STANDING.
Current Section of the Bylaws:
Section 1. Monthly Dues.
(a) Members shall pay monthly dues of at least eleven dollars ($11.00).
(b) Members who are employed less than full-time shall pay monthly dues of at least five dollars and fifty cents ($5.50).
(c) Members who are temporarily unemployed due to injury, illness, downsizing, privatization, or a suspension or termination that is being appealed shall pay monthly dues of at least one dollar ($1.00).
To:
Section 1. Monthly Dues.
(a) Members shall pay monthly dues in an amount recommended by the Executive Board and ratified by the membership.
(b) Members who are employed part time (less than 75% time) or who are retired shall pay a lower rate than members who are employed full time.
(c) Members who are temporarily unemployed due to injury, illness, downsizing, privatization, or a suspension or termination that is being appealed shall pay monthly dues equivalent to the per-capita amount paid by UCW-CWA to CWA International.
