2008 Raise Update
Mar 7th, 2008 by UCW-CWA
UCW has been working hard to get our hands on an understanding of what is happenning with this year’s budget. From meeting and talking with some of our allies in Nashville, we are continuing to get a grasp on it.
It is still early for any final determinations, but the forecast for our raise is not looking very promising. With the state tax coffers down close to $200 million we have been told it is going to be a HUGE fight for something more just than the Governor’s 2% raise proposal. Additionally, we know that the UT administration wants full control over where the 2% will go- we have to be on guard against the 1% across the board and 1% merit pool of two years ago that hit the faculty.
That is why the work we do with your help over the next two months will be so crucial in securing a decent pay raise.
On Tuesday, March 18th we will be travelling to Nashville for our UTK Grassroots lobby day. We have appointments set up with over 30 house and senate leaders who will have an impact on this year’s budget. Additionally, we are launching a postcard campaign to Senator Jamie Woodson.
Please email me if you are interested in coming with us to Nashville on the 18th- email me at cameronjbrooks@hotmail.com. Also email me if you would like some postcards to distribute.
On Thursday March 13th at 5:30 pm at our office we will have a special training on what is involved with lobby day.
Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns.
In Solidarity,
Cameron
