Your Help Needed Over Next Days
May 7th, 2008 by UCW-CWA
I am sure most of you have seen the announcement from President Petersen concerning the cuts that are coming to UT.
The Governor can present his budget, which he will do in a speech to the full legislature on Monday, but it is the legislature that has to ratify it. Every member of the state house is up for re-election this year, along with half of the state senate. They are the ones that have to ratify any budget cuts.
Some members of the house are proposing using the 750 million dollar rainy day fund to offset the cuts- others are working for tax reform measures that will close the gap.
It is not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination.
Over the next several mornings we will be handing out flyers as folks come to work. These flyers will ask people to call a specific 1800 number to talk to the members of the legislature who will be making this decision. Here are the areas we will focus on:
Thursday (tommorrow) morning, 7 am-9 am- the parking lot behind circle park
Friday morning, 7 am - 9 am- the parking lot beside student health
Monday morning, 7 am - 9 am- the parking lot at the vet school.
We need volunteers to help with this. Your help is needed! Please email me at cameronjbrooks@hotmail.com or call 387-4408 if you can help.
