UCW Fellowship
Apply today to be a UCW Fellow! APPLY BY AUGUST 8, 2024
UCW Southeast Members are invited to apply to the 2024-2025 UCW-CWA fellowship program. You should apply if...
- You want to improve your efficacy as a union organizer
- You can contribute dedicated time to growing your state's membership and campaigns
- You want to be in community with organizers dedicated to power and justice for all campus workers
Previous fellowship participants said...
"This sounds cliché, but the solidarity and sense of camaraderie with both the other fellows and with UCW as a a whole has really empowered me. The people beside have given me the confidence to step forward with so much more courage than I ever had in the past to stand up up for workers, recruit, and share our work on campus."
"I very much appreciated this opportunity! It was a great learning experience and gave me an important look into what a career in organizing could look like. I wish it was a two-year fellowship!"
"The fellowship has been an amazing experience. I've learned useful organizing skills, but I also learned a lot personally. Such as self motivation, time management, and communication skills. I hope it continues for many years!"
"This fellowship program has been the guided experience that I need to go from an active member interested in being more involved to an organizer committed to workers on campus."
Ok, I'm interested! What's the commitment?
- 2 Semesters : September 1, 2024 - April 30, 2025
- 20 hours/month, including:
- 1 Saturday (10:00am-1:00pm EST) group training call each month, plus additional training opportunities, totaling up to 5 hours
- 10-15 hours/month of scheduled recruitment activities (canvassing on campus, phone calls, lead generation, etc.)
- Up to 5 hours/month of additional scheduled "task time" (ie, meeting with mentor, prep work, etc)
What else should I know?
- Fellows receive a stipend of $500/month over the course of the fellowship
- Fellows who successfully complete the program will have completed 40 hours of training and 80 hours of canvassing, a good statistic for those interested in applying for jobs in the labor movement, and a significant contribution for any member to make to their union!
- You may have the opportunity to travel to other campuses to learn from other organizing drives happening throughout UCWSE.
I already have a job. Is this just for people who want to be professional organizers?
- No! Any union member who wants to become a more effective organizer and can make the commitment should apply. After this program, you will have skills that could contribute to a lifetime of organizing in your union. We want our membership to be full of the most skilled organizers in the labor movement!
You talked me into it. Now what?
Applications are open for the 2024-2025 class for members in UCWSE (Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and South Carolina). You need a statement of interest, and 2 references from current members of your state, one of whom is an elected officer.
I still have questions. Who should I talk to?
